Terri started playing piano by ear at age three and soon began studying classical piano. One day, during her teen years, she stumbled across her Grandfather's acoustic guitar and taught herself to play. The urge to sing soon followed, so Terri taught herself to do that, as well.
Terri's parents had always dreamed that after high school, their daughter would attend Syracuse's prestigious Le Moyne College. Although Le Moyne did not have a music program at the time, Terri wanted to make her parents proud of her. Therefore, she continued to hone her musical skills on her own time, performed whenever she could, and graduated Le Moyne with a B.A. in English, a minor in (secondary) Education, and a temporary teaching certificate.
A few months later, Terri accepted a full time teaching position at a local middle school. However, the job left her overworked, exhausted, unfulfilled, and with little time to pursue her passion for music; thus, she did not renew her contract. Since Terri's teaching certification was due to expire in four years, she decided to seek permanent certification by enrolling at Syracuse University, from which she graduated with an M.S. in Education.
Feeling increasingly drawn to a career in music, Terri decided to enroll in Onondaga Community College's music program and was accepted as a piano major. After hearing her play acoustic guitar, world-renowned classical guitarist and O.C.C. instructor, Carl Mano, asked Terri to minor in the instrument under his tutelage. Terri also studied voice and after two years, earned her A.A.S. in music. She later returned to the college to study percussion and jazz piano. Terri has been blessed to have been able to enjoy a career in both teaching English and performing music, including percussion, acoustic guitar, back-up and lead vocals, and multiple keyboards.
She has performed in her own bands, including Strings 'n' Things and Flashpoint. She has also performed with the original Golden Gate, Tom Nelli and Company, Midnight, Mainstream, Room Service, Chain Reaction, Player, Street Corner, and Dan Elliot and the Monterays. Shecurrently enjoys performing with bassist and husband, Gary O. Wilson, and vocalist and friend, Mike Romano, in the extremely versatile group, Mike Romano and Friends.
Upon graduating Cicero High School in 1970, Gary entered the Navy and was elated to have been accepted into the Navy School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. While there, he studied electric bass. After graduating, he was assigned to the Boston Navy Band where he performed extensively from 1971 to 1974. The band venues included high schools, colleges, and its performances were featured on local, regional and national television. Some performance highlights included the following: a nationally televised appearance at a Boston Celtics half-time show in 1972, a nationally televised performance before the beginning of the fourth game of the World Series in 1972, and performances on the USS Constitution Turnaround from 1971 through 1973.
Following his Navy service, he continued honing his bass skills by performing in commercial bands in both Boston and Chicago. In 1975, he decided to return to Syracuse and further his education by enrolling as a full-time music student at Onondaga Community College. While there, he was chosen to play bass in one of the college's two stage bands, and performed with other local bands, including the Jazz Band Coalition. Two highlights of 1977 included graduating from OCC with an A.A.S. in music, and also being hired to perform with recording artists, The Four Aces. In 1978, while still in the Jazz Band Coalition, the group had the honor of opening for Herbie Hancock at Oswego College.
He has continued to enjoy playing a wide variety of venues with various bands including Strings 'N' Things, Flashpoint, The John Spillit Band, The Salt City Pit Orchestra, Chain Reaction and Street Corner. Currently, Gary performs with the Brass Exchange, Mike Romano and Friends and The Holy Family Praise and Worship band.
